The Sobeys NBIAA High School Basketball All Star Games will take place this Sunday in the Sonic Dome at Sussex Regional High School. Ladies will play at 1pm, with the Men's game slated for 3pm. Sonic Nick Huggard has been selected to join the Men's all star squad.
The Middle School Girls will host the Middle School Provincials this coming weekend at the Middle School. First game of the tournament and first game for Sussex is 10am Saturday Morning against Harry Miller. Sussex will play again at 4pm against Harkins. Sunday will be Crossover & Championship games!

NUCLEAR SEISMIC

An environmental group wants New Brunswick's public utility company to delay the restart to the Point Lepreau nuclear reactor. The Conservation Council of New Brunswick wants a new earthquake hazard study to be done first. That was the recommendation of a federal agency when the nuclear plant had its operating licence extended earlier this month. A spokeswoman with N-B Power says a seismic hazard assessment will be done, but could not say when.

A resident of Maple Avenue in Sussex has put forward some very specific requests for Town Council to consider in regards to the lack of the top Cop in its Sussex detachment. Mark Higgins believes that Council should be asking for a refund for the lack of a Sergeant. However, Acting Mayor Marc Thorne informed Council that the Sergeant is not one of the nine officers that Council pays for. Thorne did speak to the two other concerns Higgins brought forward, and clarified that Council will be asking to be a part of the process to select the detachment's new Sergeant.
EMERGENCY RADIO SYSTEM

The Maritime provinces are scrapping a plan to integrate separate emergency radio systems. The plan would have provided a digital upgrade to replace several systems used by police, firefighters and search organizations. An official with the public safety office in P-E-I says the provinces decided to abandon the plan after evaluating the technical requirements and costs to provide the system. When it was announced in May 2010, the final cost of the overall project was expected to be more than 100 million dollars.
MILITARY PLANE FIRE

Their CC-130 Hercules is extensively damaged, but the Canadian Forces' members who were onboard it when a fire broke out are all safe. Nine military members were on the transport yesterday, taking part in a training exercise, when the aircraft caught fire near a naval air station in Key West, Florida. The pilot made an emergency landing and fire crews quickly doused the flames. The plane and crew from Winnipeg's 17 Wing were providing air-to-air refuelling for the training of new CF-18 fighter pilots from 4 Wing Cold Lake, Alberta.

The federal government confirms its plan to overhaul the country's old-age pension system will be unveiled in next month's budget. Human Resources Minister Diane Finley told a Toronto business audience yesterday there is much need for reform -- that leaving old-age pension benefits alone will result in higher taxes and fewer social programs for the younger generation. It's widely believed Ottawa will raise the age of eligibility for Old Age Security from 65 to 67
BILL C-30

The New Brunswick Association of Chiefs of Police is supporting the national group's position on Bill C-30. The regional group says the lawful access bill would help law enforcement agencies investigate and apprehend criminals. The group says the controversial bill would give police timely access to basic information to assist in investigations of criminal activity. Halifax and Cape Breton's police chiefs are also adding their support, saying the bill won't lead to an invasion of people's privacy.

Whitney Houston is still a draw, and that's a problem for the cemetery where she's buried. The Star-Ledger of Newark reports the Fairview Cemetery in Westfield, New Jersey, has closed its gates because too many fans are trying to visit Houston's grave. Police say the cemetery's narrow lanes were gridlocked Monday afternoon with more than 100 cars. Police now are restricting access only to those with relatives buried there.
Adele has now passed Whitney Houston. Adele's album 21'' has spent 21 weeks atop Billboard's Top 200 albums chart. Nielsen SoundScan says 21 has pushed aside Whitney Houston'sThe Bodyguard,'' as longest run for a woman at the top of Billboard's album chart. Adele's sophomore album sold 730,000 copies the week after her Grammy Awards sweep.
Is Rihanna making a huge mistake in working with Chris Brown? Billboard editorial director Bill Werde says probably not in the short run. Werde says he doubts any corporate sponsors will drop her outright, but they may look elsewhere when her endorsement contracts expire. He says sponsors like someone whose story is not complicated.'' However, he points out Rihanna is a grown woman and she can sing with and date whomever she wants. Brown sings on the remix of Rihanna's racy songBirthday Cake,'' and she sings on the remix for his song, ``Turn Up The Music.'' They've also been tweeting each other. Brown assaulted Rihanna at a pre-Grammy event in 2009. Their representatives have not commented on the remixes.

Sergio Mendes is disappointed that he won't be able to perform his nominated song at the Oscars. Mendes co-wrote Real in Rio'' from the movieRio.'' It's up against only one other song, Man or Muppet'' fromThe Muppets,'' written by Bret McKenzie. The Oscars cut the performances of the best original song nominees from Sunday's show. Mendes says he's very frustrated'' andkind of sad'' that he can't perform ``such a lively song.'' He says it's a great song to do live. He says he can't have everything but he'll still go to the Oscars.
Bonnaroo organizers are going to give ticket sales another go. Sales will resume at noon Eastern on Saturday. High demand and technical problems shut down Bonnaroo's website when tickets went on sale last Saturday. Bonnaroo will be held June 7-10 in Manchester, Tennessee, and feature The Beach Boys, Radiohead, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Bon Iver and Phish.
Music producer Phil Spector took his case all the way to the Supreme Court -- and it did no good. The court has declined to take up his appeal of his conviction for killing actress Lana Clarkson in 2003. Spector's attorneys had argued the prosecution's use of a judge's videotaped comments and his picture during prosecution summations was improper. Lower courts had refused to consider the case and upheld Spector's conviction. He's serving 19 years to life in prison.
Los Angeles County prosecutors are opposing Michael Jackson's doctor as he tries to win release from jail while he appeals his involuntary manslaughter conviction. Prosecutors argue in court documents Dr. Conrad Murray is a flight risk and a danger to the community. Murray's attorneys are asking for his release on bail or on his own recognizance with an electronic ankle bracelet monitoring his movements. Murray was found guilty of giving Jackson a powerful anesthetic as a sleep aid in June 2009. Murray is serving a four-year jail sentence.
Motorhead don't want fans to think they're ripping them off with a new boxed set. The company that holds the rights to their early music has released a collection called Complete Early Years Box Set.'' It sells for around $600. Frontman Lemmy is advising against fans from buying it, saying,Unfortunately greed once again rears its yapping head.'' The band say they have no control over those early songs and don't want fans to think they're involved in such an expensive item.
Fiona Apple is ready to tour again. She will perform at South By Southwest in Austin, Texas, on March 15. She'll then do a six-date tour beginning in Chicago on March 19. Billboard magazine quotes Epic Records CEO L.A. Reid as saying Apple's next album absolutely'' will be out this year. She hasn't released anything sinceExtraordinary Machine'' in 2005.
The British love Adele as much as the Americans do. Adele's 21'' won album of the year at the Brit Awards, Britain's answer to the Grammys. Adele also won best British female solo artist. She accepted her award from Kylie Minogue and joked,I feel like a drag queen next to you.'' Coldplay won best British group for the fourth time. The Foo Fighters won best international group. Bruno Mars won best international male solo artist, and Rihanna won for best international female solo artist. She says, ``At times when I feel misunderstood, my fans always remind me that it's OK to be myself.''
Gordon Lightfoot and Bob Seger are among those who will be honored with induction into the Songwriters Hall of Fame. Jim Steinman, who wrote most of Meat Loaf's hits as well as Total Eclipse of the Heart'' andMaking Love Out of Nothing At All'' also will be inducted. So will Harvey Schmidt and Tom Jones -- not the pop singer, but the lyricist -- who composed The Fantasticks.'' Another inductee is country songwriter Don Schlitz, who wroteThe Gambler'' and ``Forever and Ever Amen.'' They will be inducted in a ceremony in New York on June 14.

DIVING
Two more Maple Leafs will be on display in diving at the London Olympics. Alexandre Despatie and Reuben Ross finished eighth and 11th respectively in a men's individual three-metre event at a diving World Cup. The results clinched spots at the Summer Games for both divers.
NATIONAL FOOTBALL LEAGUE (NFL)
Buffalo Bills fans will be spared a trip to Toronto this summer. Scheduling conflicts will move a Bills' pre-season game at Rogers Centre back to Orchard Park. Buffalo will still play a regular-season game at Toronto in the final year of a five-year deal to bring N-F-L action to Canada. The Bills and Rogers Communications say they are working on extending the deal.
Backup quarterback Brady Quinn is apologizing to Tim Tebow after dissing the Denver Broncos starter in a G-Q article. Quinn attributed Tebow's success to luck, questioned how he expresses his Christian beliefs and said the fans were the reason Tebow got the start over himself. Quinn says he's reached out to Tebow directly to say sorry.
CURLING
Things are getting interesting at the Scotties Tournament of Hearts. Defending champion Amber Holland lost 8-5 to Quebec to fall into a three-way tie atop the round robin at the Canadian women's curling championship. Holland is now tied at 5-and-2 with Manitoba's Jennifer Jones and B-C's Kelly Scott, who beat Newfoundland and Labrador 11-7 to join the leaders.
NATIONAL BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION (NBA)
San Antonio's 11-game winning streak came to an ugly end in Portland. LaMarcus Aldridge scored 21 points as the Trail Blazers slammed the Spurs 137-97. San Antonio rested stars Tim Duncan and Tony Parker for the team's third game in four nights.
Dwyane Wade scored 30 points and added 10 assists as the league-leading Miami Heat won their seventh straight, 120-108 over Sacramento.
Roy Hibbert had a career-high 30 points and 13 rebounds to lead Indiana to a 117-108 overtime win over New Orleans.
Marc Gasol had 15 points and 14 rebounds as Memphis handed Philadelphia an 89-76 defeat.
The top pick in last year's N-B-A draft had a monster night for Cleveland. Rookie point guard Kyrie Irving scored 17 points in the fourth quarter and hit two free throws in the final second to help the Cavaliers shock Detroit 101-100. Irving finished with 25 points while Antawn Jamison had 32 points and 10 rebounds to snap the Pistons' three-game winning streak.
NATIONAL HOCKEY LEAGUE (NHL)
The Oilers' Albertan nightmare is over. Sam Gagner scored once and added two assists as Edmonton stunned the Calgary Flames 6-1. The win ends the Oilers' nine-game losing streak against Calgary.
Mike Fisher was still battling the flu before the game, but the Nashville forward looked locked in against Vancouver. Fisher scored and added two assists as the Predators beat the Canucks 3-1.
Nobody may be more disappointed in Winnipeg than Ondrej Pavelec.The Jets goaltender made a season-high 50 saves but couldn't keep Winnipeg from holding off Philly's rally in a 5-4 overtime loss.
In Toronto, the Maple Leafs suffered a similiar fate after scoring in the final minute of regulation to tie the game. Mark Fayne scored in O-T to lift New Jersey past Toronto 4-3.
The slump continues for the Montreal Canadiens. Carey Price stopped 33 shots but the Habs still fell 3-nothing to Dallas.
Phoenix rallied from a 3-nothing deficit to beat L-A 5-4 in a shootout.

Tampa Bay used an early lead to defeat Anaheim 3-2
Columbus scored four goals in the first period to beat San Jose 6-3.

The Detroit Red Wings added some help on the blue-line on the same day they lost their leading scorer. Detroit acquired defenceman Kyle Quincey from Colorado in a three-team deal, but star Pavel Datsyuk will miss two weeks after having surgery to remove fragments from his knee. Colorado meanwhile picked up forward Steve Downie while Tampa Bay grabbed a first-round pick and a prospect.
A three-way trade has set the tone ahead of Monday's N-H-L trade deadline. The deal saw Detroit acquire defenceman Kyle Quincey from Colorado, which got forward Steve Downey from Tampa Bay. The Lightning picked up a first-round pick and a defensive prospect in the deal on a day that also brought some bad news to the team. Tampa captain Vincent Lecavalier will miss the rest of the season with an undisclosed upper-body injury.
